Convection

My paper on degree-1 convection in the Martian mantle has finally been published (JGR-Planets). You have to pay to get it from AGU but it should be on my web page for free later today. Not that many of you would be interested; it's a fairly techincal work. I'm only harping on it because it took them three times as long to correct the proof as it should have, especially given that only trivial changes were required.

Nobody wanted our couch, so Salvation Army's coming today to get it. They won't say WHEN they'll come for it, which is a bit inconvenient as I need to go into work today to hand in my keys and return a couple books to the library. Also, I left my calendar in my office. We're pretty much ready for the truck. Everything's packed except a few odds and ends (which always takes longer than expected). Didn't even really cook dinner last night. Mmm. Take 'n' Bake Pizza. The food contents of our kitchen now consist of 1 serving's worth of Rice Krispies, 2 slices of bread, half a jar of Blackberry jam, a hunk o' cheese, a pint of milk, 3 eggs, 2 cups of yogurt, a bottle of gatorade, and half a head of romaine lettuce, salad dressing, margarine, about a tablespoon of lime juice, five cups of coffee in the pot and 2 oranges. Rather a lot really. One of the oranges will vanish forthwith.

We were trying to get rid of our old couch. For some reason no other grad students nor any of our other local friends wanted a free couch. It's very comfy. In fact it's hard to get out of. This is in fact, the same couch that [livejournal.com profile] cxi162 gave us when we left Blacksburg. So we had Salvation Army come today to get it. They came. They told us there wasn't room in the truck for it. WTF? If you know you can't handle it, don't even bother showing up. They did at least take away various other items we had no use for including 3 chairs we bought at a yard sale 2 years ago and have sat in our basement ever since. They're coming by on Monday to get the couch for real. As we're leaving Sunday, we'll have to just leave it out for them. I know in Boulder proper that leaving a couch outside for even five minutes is punishable by crucifixion, but we're hoping in Lafayette, they'll give it a day. Our landlady is being good enough to come over Monday and check that they actually got it. My parents are buying us a new couch for our new place as a final graduation present.

I also turned in my keys to CU today. I had 9 keys checked out and I turned 9 back in. They weren't happy that the key to my office had a different code number than the one in their system, but that's because they'd renumbered it in their system. The old phrase "Bitch and ye shall receive" came into play as I whined enough that they just took it anyway. I don't think I convinced them I was right, I just convinced them I wasn't worth arguing with. I'll also never get my deposit back because their system never shows that I paid one. I'm pretty sure I did, but I didn't want to press the issue since they gave in on the key numbering issue.

Time to sleep. The movers will be here in 9 hours or so.
