kathleenroberts and I finally got to go get some local fish today. 10 miles south of our house is Moss Landing, a nothing town midway between Santa Cruz and Monterey. On the bay is
Phil's Fish Market and Eatery. We ate there, since they serve some of what got pulled out of the bay (though they import some of their fish. Weird.) It was good, but not good enough to justify the price. It's basically a waterfront fish shack, but it's priced like a nice seafood restaurant. Very popular, but not packed.
jazzfish will be particularly interested to know that the soda fountain has RC cola. I've never seen that as an option before, but its inclusion is to be applauded. We brought home some locally caught halibut to cook tomorrow as well as some desserts with an Absolute Richness Coefficient (ARC) of 46.3. For comparison, a standard Hershey's Kiss only has an ARC of about 0.9. I am, of course, making this all up, but it there ought to be such a system. Perhaps modeled after the
Scoville scale used for determining the heat of pepper.
