First day at work
Jul. 11th, 2006 10:38 pmI arrived at exactly the same time as my supervisor, so great timing there. Got me my own private office, even if it is roughly the size of a large closet. And it has a window. Finally got all the paperwork and such finished. Still no phone in my office, and the email account for some reason takes the university 3-5 days to set up. I'm under the impression that it actually takes about 25 seconds worth of work, but whatever. This afternoon I started plowing through a paper on tidal dissipation, which I'll shortly be studying in icy moons of Saturn.
The parking lot I'm using has a great view of Santa Cruz, the bay, and you can even see Monterey and the mountains beyond it. I'll try to remember to take a picture of it. The rest of the campus is hidden back in a redwood forest. Looks great, but navigation is a beyotch. Still haven't seen any of the banana slugs that are the university's mascot. Yes, something even more bizzare than the Hokie Bird, a slug for a mascot.
