Better post before I forget more stuff. This will likely follow no coherent pattern.

On Friday, the campus was technically closed for Veterans Day (or Flaming Moe's Day if you prefer), but I'm usually more productive on days that I have off, so I went in anyway. The place was truly deserted. I finally got my propagator matrix solution for tidal heating in a multilayered body, but there was no place to get coffee. I left early (5:15) and got to the Cheese Shop before it closed. I picked up a cheese called Ewe F. O. that is not entirely unlike Fontina. I'll let you decide which animal it comes from. I also got me a hunk of Rogue River Blue, because I'm apparently incapable of shopping for cheese without picking up a blue. The nice thing about being an adult is that if you want to have cheese and bread for dinner you can do it. (And figs, grapes, sherry).

We did a jigsaw puzzle of a hummingbird. Didn't much like this one because pieces appeared to fit in placed they didn't actually go. There are also large patches of featureless green. We did this while "Clerks" was showing on Comedy Central. After each commercial break they'd announce: "The following contains strong language and some adult situations. Viewer discretion is advised." Strong language and adult situations? The movie doesn't "contain" them, that's pretty much all it is. We have also finally joined Netflix and got "Memoirs of a Geisha".

On Sunday, we went back into Santa Cruz. The UCSC Arboretum was having a succulent sale, so we picked up some of them. The best chowda in the area is supposed to be at Stagnaro Bros. on the wharf so we went there for lunch. The chowda was indeed excellent. The rest of the food was merely ok. We replenished our stock of saltwater taffy from Marini's. At dinner we discovered that the Ewe F. O. is even better if you stick it under the broiler to melt it on the bread.

Yesterday we had a torrential downpour. I didn't have my umbrella, so the trek back to the car after work was truly miserable. And then I got rear-ended on the way out. The car behind me was moving at about 1 mph. No one was hurt and I didn't see any damage, so I decided to just let it go rather than stand around in the rain. This morning I discovered the paint on my rear bumper is indeed scuffed up quite a bit, but the lighting was so bad last night that I didn't notice it even when I was looking for it. I'll probably want to get that repainted at some point.
