It's WAAAAAAAATER!
Jan. 4th, 2008 07:26 pmWhen it rains, it pours as they say. I think some places on the central coast of CA have gotten up to 5 inches of rain today. Santa Cruz lost power this morning. I shouldn't have bothered to go in as it was out by the time I got there. And I had to leave my car there. I wasn't sure I had enough fuel to get all the way home. I'd planned to get gas today, but with no power, the gas pumps weren't working. That'll teach me. So I had to call
kathleenroberts (who fortunately had the day off) to come pick me up.
We have power and internet at home, but working from home was remarkably unproductive today. Somehow my campus email was still working, at least intermittently. Still have a lot of class prep to do, but at least my LPSC abstract seems to be in decent shape. I hope my computer at work didn't get fried. It's plugged into a surge protector, but still. Sadly, power outages on campus are routine.
I'll have to head back in to town sometime this weekend to retrieve my car. I thought folks round here were being overly panicky about the coming rainstorm, but this was pretty intense. My colleagues in Berkeley said trucks had overturned and bridges were blocked. I think Highway 17 is gone.
Stay dry.
