The American Southwest Part 5
Jul. 1st, 2006 12:38 amLas Vegas, NV to Watsonville, CA
Finally arrived at my new home. The neighboorhood looks a lot better now that we saw it in the daylight. Went to Best Buy in Gilroy, the garlic captial of the world. Got us a great deal on a Washer and Dryer. Had a 12% off one item coupon that the salesperson applied to both items, so we got the set for under $600. Also, it came with $100 gift card which we immediately applied to a DVD-recorder/VCR combo. I understand that DVDs are already obsolete. They haven't even standardized on +/- yet and now they're going to HD-DVD or Blu-Ray. But we're always behind.
Having problems with the water heater. The house had been vacant for the past year while it was being renovated. We lit the pilot light last night and showered this morning, but it went out again later today and won't relight. We may not be able to get it fixed until Monday. Bleargh.
This is truly the land of produce. We have Gilroy, the garlic capital and Castroville, the artichoke capital close by. Everywhere there are vinyards, olive and almond groves. Looks like what I expect from Italy. And our supermarket has a full aisle of tortillas. Italy probably doesn't. Of course I've never been there either, so I can't know what that's like. Tomorrow we're heading in to Santa Cruz to check out the fish market and shop for a couch.
Pictures are up.
