We live 15 miles from Gilroy, CA. The Garlic Capital of the World. This weekend was the 38th Gilroy Garlic Festival. Little needs to be said here. Lots of garlic was eaten. Except for the calamari (hyper-chewy) it was all good. Especially the taters. We were not inclined to stand in the huge line for the garlic ice cream, but we were told that it tastes like ice cream with a garlic aftertaste. We now have 3 lbs. of garlic heads in our kitchen as it was being sold for ridiculously cheap. And unlike in Colorado, the garlic here is actually fresh. That is, it doesn't already have green shoots forming inside it the day you buy it. Now to see how long until we get sick of garlic.

There are a lot of produce festivals round here. It's farming country. Next weekend is the Strawberry festival which is, I believe, within walking distance of the house. And there's an Artichoke festival at some point closer to Monterey.
